How Recent History And Logic Suggests You Should Bet On The Cowboys To Win The NFC East

Ever since 2004, the NFC East has produced 3 Super Bowl winning teams, and each team in the division has claimed the NFC East title at least once. Those may be interesting facts, but the most interesting of them all may just be this.
Ever since 2004, no team has won the division on back-to-back occasions. Over the past couple years, I have used this coincidence when deciding between the Eagles and Cowboys to win the division, and it hasn't failed me yet. In today's post, I'll be taking a look at whether or not I expect this trend to continue. Let's get into it!
Do I Expect This Trend To Continue?

The Philadelphia Eagles won the division last season, which means if the trend continues, they're out of the race. If you want my opinion, this trend WILL continue. Now, I'm not only saying this because I'm afraid to bet against this coincidence, but I'm a big believer in the Cowboys this upcoming season. Okay, well "big" may be a stretch, I still am a believer in Dallas, and here's why.
Why I Believe In The Dallas Cowboys

Todd Brock/Cowboys Wire
After all these years of disappointment, it's tough to put a lot of eggs in the Dallas Cowboys basket, but I do believe this Cowboys team can win the division, and I don't think I'm setting the bar too high by saying that. Obviously, the trend is on there side. If this trend continues, the eagles have no shot at the division, and I really do like the Cowboys odds against the Giants and the Redskins. I think we can all agree on that.
Personally, I'm not a huge Mike McCarthy guy, but I don't believe Jason Garrett has left him with big shoes to fill either, and he could definitely outperform him as a head coach. Then, there's Dak Prescott. Statistically, Prescott had a great year last season, he just needs to combine that with a better team record and more success against tougher competition. Dak has got a lot to prove this season, and he's got a chip on his shoulder as well. Call me crazy, but I firmly do believe Dak Prescott can win MVP this season, and I'd even say he's my pick to win it at the moment. A new head coach, the addition of CeeDee Lamb, the (expected) better team record, and the chip on his shoulder, along with the great stats he already had can CERTAINLY be enough to bring home the NFL's Most Valuable Player award.
Now, the defense on this Cowboys team, it's questionable to say the least. The Cowboys defense certainly isn't spectacular, but they're not bottom of the League either. This defense, it's just slightly under average to average. People act like this defense is awful, and although the loss of corner back Byron Jones made their secondary go from bad to worse, but as a whole, this defense is over hated, and although they certainly can't will you to a Super Bowl, when paired with this offensive unit, this Cowboys team can MOST DEFINITELY win the NFC East.
We Can All Agree That Both The Redskins And Giants Have No Chance

Paul Schwartz/New York Post
Listen, the Redskins and the Giants have some things going for them in terms of their respective rebuilds, but there's just no way I can see either team pulling through. The Redskins quietly have a solid defense, but that's really about it. And the Giants, Saqoun Barkley! I don't think I need to do very much explaining here. Both these teams are young teams that aren't built to win now, they've just got to many wholes on their rosters and they're simply just not good enough to compete with teams like the Eagles and the Cowboys.
Conclusion

Listen, my point today wasn't to use logic and this trend to GUARANTEE the Cowboys will win the NFC East, but rather to explain why I think they've got an upper hand on the Eagles, and the Giants and Redskins of course. The Eagles could certainly break the trend, but if this trend, coincidence, prophecy, whatever you want to call it continues, the Cowboys are basically a lock to take this thing home, and trend or no trend, I think logically they've got the best shot as well. Thanks for reading, peace.
